"Electronic Energy" Show presented by WEBISTS at the art.fair 2004, Cologne, Germany

About "Electronic Energy" Show:

The "Electronic Energy" Show will be an animated presentation. High energy discharges in form
of lightning lead from one image to another. Each image changes the appearance of the building
and enlivens it with new energy just like digital art and webism changes the world of art with new
impulses.

The "Electric Energy" Show, especially created by webists as a highlight for the art.fair_04, is an
Illumination upon a building opposite to the "Palladium" called "E-Werk", an historic electric
power plant.

The animated presentation includes 60 pictures of the participating webists on DVD.
The images are produced and displayd exclusively digital
(2 x 10.000 lumen beamer 36 x 12 meters and 42" plasma-monitors). No printed images.

Initiator and "spiritual father" of the "Electronic Energy" Show is the Cologne Artist Erich Fritz, who
is concentrated on Digital Art since 1988. "So I am a webist and digital artist (with heart, hand and
soul) I decided to realize this event as (digital) webist show. I started a call for entries and in
shortest time eleven webists joined to the project."

Since January 2004 e-rich is member of the "WEBISTS".

The group was foundet by Rodney Chang (Pygoya), Hawaii and Ingrid Kamerbeek,
Sonthofen, who is also central coordinator of the "WEBISTS".
At the side of her work as an artist she is our creative designer and webmaster of the

„…Cologne’s art.fair, which had its inaugural run this month…
14.11.2003, The Wall Street Journal Europe

Magnificent Nights for Webism

a report by E-rich

They are now past - the five splendid nights for Websim at the Cologne
art.fair 2004.

The opening on Thursday was a colossal event. I estimate that
approximately 4000 mostly invited guests were present and spread out
over the 5000 m2 of the fair grounds. One can image how crowded both
halls were.

Promptly at 7 pm both 10.000 lumen beamer projected the "Electronic
Energy" onto the red brickwalls of the Cologne "E-Werk". Parallel to the
art.fair, there was a rock concert in the "E-Werk". Thus initially the
building was also lit up by strings of lights that illuminated the
contours of the building. The two gigantic beamer projected in rapid
succession our pictures onto the historic building and filled it with
color and digital energy.

In the entrance area of the fair halls red carpets were rolled out and
the black VIP shuttle limousines as well as shuttle busses of the "ART
COLOGNE" brought many important guests to the art.fair.

The crowd barely fit into the entrance hall, people conversed and tried
to get oriented before they joined the crowd around the booths and
galleries.

At 8:45 pm an electronic thunderstorm in form of Carsten Thiele's music
"Electronic Thunderstorm" rained down on the people in the foyer.
Simultaneously with our light show outside, acoustic rain showers and
energy-discharges poured over the people in countless variations. All
the guests however weathered this spherical unique experience since even
the integrated earthquake was harmoniously combined with everything
else. A female church choir began at the very moment when Dan's pictures
were projected outside.

At the closing of the opening many guests noticed with surprise our
presentation on the opposite "E-Werk" which formed the harmonious finale
of the event. Quite a few people took a few more photos before they went
home.

The following nights passed in a similar way whereby the numbers of
people varied. I estimate 1500 guests on Friday and Monday, on Saturday
3000 and Sunday 4000.

... About 10% of all galleries (almost without exception from Berlin) included
or showed exclusively digital or digitally influenced art. They were, however,
as expected, not as crowded as galleries with more established artists. ...

All in all, however, the "Electronic Energy Project" was in my opinion
an important step for the Webists. We presented ourselves very well at
an important commercial event and the organizers of the fair expressed
excitement and contentment with the show.

The terms Webism, Webists etc. have been presented several hundred times
to an audience interested in art. Tough it was perceived mostly
subconsciously, it will have a high memory value.

Similarly the gain from press releases, at least in Germany, are quite
considerable for an artist project in an art metropolis such as Cologne:
we were extensively mentioned in the information of the art.fair itself
as well as in "Wirtschaftsmagazin" and "Orlando Sentinel" as well as on
