The backbencher

The Backbencher's political pictures competition
The competition
Three new pictures of the party leaders painted by Jonathan Yeo ( www.commissionaportrait.com) have recently gone on show at the House of Commons. The Backbencher thought she would ask whether anyone could do any better. She asked Mr Yeo to judge the entries.
And the winner is . . .

Philip Carroll: Michael X

Philip Carroll: Michael X
Jonathan Yeo says: "I liked Michael X because it is both contemporary and immediately recognisable. It's also an intense and powerful character study. I feel it's important that a portrait should work as a painting, regardless of whetheryou are familiar with the subject. This one definitely does that."
